Ethylcellulose (EC) is a kind of signle-ether cellulose, a long chain polymer with β-dehydroglucose as a unit connected by acetal form of cellulose. It is a water-insoluble cellulose derivative, so it never absorbs the moisture from humid air or water. This polymer is odorless with a good flow and in an appearance of white or beige powder, whose the ethoxy group content lowering than 46.5% is easily soluble in chloroform, methyl acetate, tetrahydrofuran, and the compound of aromatic hydrocarbon and 95% ethyl alcohol. Implementing the requirements of ChP (the Fourth part of 2020 edition), USP-NF 2024, PhEur 11th for ethyl cellulose (EC). Manufacturing in line with the GMP standard. Both ethyl cellulose (EC) and other biobased polymers are widely used in pharmaceutical excipients without poison and irritation. It cannot be used in injections. The ethyl cellulose (EC) powder has irritation to eyes so the safety goggles are necessary.
